Smoking Cessation Service
Hospital Trusts across Greater Manchester are aiming to start referring patients to the national Smoking Cessation Service from the end of this year onwards.

Service Information
You may want to consider signing up for the service if you haven’t already done so.
By signing up, you declare that you are ready to offer the service.
Before signing up, you need to:
1. Complete training
Read and understood the operational processes to provide the SCS as described in the service specification
Successfully complete the following National Centre for Smoking Cessation and Training (NCSCT) courses and satisfactorily passed the assessments (where applicable):
Stop Smoking Practitioner training and certification;
Mental health and smoking cessation course;
Pregnancy and smoking cessation course; and
E-cigarettes: a guide for healthcare professionals course
Have read the NCSCT Standard Treatment Programme (STP), which will be used to support consultations
2. Have a suitable CO monitor
The CO monitor must be appropriate for use on adult and/or pregnant patients. There are two choices of CO monitors for both pregnant and non-pregnant smokers. Information is available on the PSNC https://psnc.org.uk/national-pharmacy-services/advanced-services/smoking-cessation-service/
3. Have an SOP in place
PSNC have produced a Smoking Cessation Service implementation checklist that may be useful to work through to ensure that you are ready to offer this service.
4. Confirm your readiness to deliver the service
