Fully Funded HLP Health Champion and Leadership Training Available for Greater Manchester Pharmacies

The enrolment deadline is 31st October 2024

The Community Pharmacy Provider Board (CPPB) and LPN has secured funding for improving quality and support for Pharmacy teams across Greater Manchester. The funding was secured through the Workforce Collaborative through successful bids.

This funding has enabled the GM Healthcare Academy to offer fully funded places for HLP Leadership and Champion Training for Community Pharmacy teams in Greater Manchester.

Healthy Living Pharmacy (HLP) is an organisational development framework which is now an essential part of the National Community Pharmacy Contract (CPCF) framework. Pharmacies need to comply to meet the requirements set out in the HLP framework which has an aim to improve people’s health, help reduce health inequalities and ensures community pharmacy can continue to contribute to the Government’s ambition of putting prevention at the heart of the NHS, as set out in the NHS Long Term Plan.

Every HLP requires a minimum of a full-time-equivalent (minimum 35 hours) qualified Health Champion who has attained the Royal Society for Public Health’s Level 2 Award in Understanding Health Improvement. An HLP also requires an HLP Leader who has undergone a recognised leadership development programme that meets the competency requirements.

FREE Health Champion Training

The Health Champion Training is available via Virtual Outcomes.

The Health Champion role is usually undertaken by a member of the public-facing healthcare team, usually a Healthcare or Medicines Counter Assistant.

The Course is initially completed online.

The RSPH assessment is paper-based and taken in the pharmacy, and must be invigilated by a GPhC registrant.

VirtualOutcomes will organise for the exam paper to be sent to the invigilating pharmacist. Once the candidate has completed the paper it must be sent back and will be marked by the RSPH. If the candidate is successful they will receive a certificate from the RSPH. These certificates can be used as evidence in the pharmacy’s HLP portfolio.

FREE HLP Leadership Training

The Leadership Training is available via Virtual Outcomes.

To enrol a learner for the Leadership course please complete their details on the online form here: https://forms.office.com/e/pj2CpS7V4x

The HLP criteria state that a pharmacy requires a clear leader within the team who is responsible for creating an ethos of proactive health and wellbeing within the pharmacy. The leader encourages each member of the team to best use their skills and, creates an environment that supports and mentors team members to deliver this vision.

The course is designed to be completed online at the convenience of the candidate and can be accessed via tablet, computer, laptop or mobile device. Some parts will need to be printed as there are exercises to do along the way.

At the end of the course, there are a series of multiple choice questions to answer.

VirtualOutcomes will review completion of the course and the CPD questions and will award Certificates of Achievement to those reaching the required standard.  These certificates can be used as evidence in the pharmacy’s HLP portfolio.
